Breakdance & Hip Hop

7 years upwards

Footwork, freezes, power moves and hip hop grooves in one class. Consistently one of our most popular, with boys and girls in equal measure.

Boys breakdancing in a hip hop class at Dancemania Witney

Breaking and hip hop in the same class, taught by someone who has trained and performed in both. Shannon came up through freestyle competition and street training in East London, and has worked with choreographers and artists from Flawless and StreetDance — so the material is the real thing, not a watered-down version of it.

It is extremely popular with boys and girls alike, and it is often the class that brings in dancers who would never have walked into a ballet studio.

What to expect
  • Breakdance foundations — toprock, footwork, freezes — built up safely and progressively.
  • Hip hop grooves and choreography alongside the breaking.
  • Strength and conditioning specific to the demands of the style.
  • A class where trying something and not landing it is the entire point.
What to wear

Trainers, tracksuit bottoms or joggers, and a t-shirt. Knee pads are welcome once breaking gets serious.

Nothing needs buying before a trial class — come in whatever your dancer can move in comfortably.
