Tap

5 years upwards

Rhythm, clarity and coordination — the most musical discipline we teach, and the one dancers are most surprised to fall in love with.

Dancemania students working on tap technique in class

Tap is where dancers learn to hear music rather than just move to it. It trains the ear and the feet at the same time, and the coordination it builds shows up everywhere else a dancer goes.

It is also, reliably, the class that makes the most noise and the most laughter.

What to expect
  • Tap terminology and technique taught from the ground up.
  • Rhythm and timing work that carries straight over into every other style.
  • Choreography and routines built up across the term.
  • Graded BTDA examinations available for dancers who want them.
What to wear

Tap shoes and comfortable clothes you can move in. Tap shoes should not be worn outside — it damages the soles and ruins the sound.

Nothing needs buying before a trial class — come in whatever your dancer can move in comfortably.
